I’m not a particularly fast or accurate reader. I don’t remember much of what I read. But there are some books that change my life and I’d like to talk about those here.
A Philosophy of Walking, Frederic Gros
A heavy focus on walking hills, mountains, and nature trails throughout history. I am a little over half way through this book. As a city dweller, the emphasis on suburban life is slightly frustrating. The emphasis on what happens around walking is thought-provoking, inspirational.
The Trouble With Being Born, E. M. Cioran (trans. Richard Howard)
Flipping through this book raises more questions than answers. It sits on the shelf, waiting to be probed. A comprehensive reading is about to begin.
Human, All Too Human, Friedrich Nietzsche
Inspired by A Philosophy of Walking. This book was unusually difficult to find outside of collections. I have avoided Nietzsche for a long time. Too many bros read him in high school and never recovered.
I have read the preface and I am excited to get into it.
